Kapono

Aloha kakou,  my given name is Kapuaihooleiiaikapono Aluli Souza but I go by Kapono.  I was born and raised on O’ahu.  I started to learn lomilomi at a young age through my tutu on my mother’s side.   My grandmother, Irmgard Farden Aluli was a well-known musician and entertainer but she was also knowledgeable in the healing arts.  She learned lomilomi through her tutu Kahalepouli and Nohokaha as well as other family members.  By the time I was 16, I was working on my friends, family, and relatives as a hobby and a little side cash.  Lomilomi came naturally to me and I found it enjoyable.

It wasn’t until 1995, when I had the privilege to sail on the Hawai’i Loa, a traditional Hawaiian voyaging canoe that my eyes were truly opened to the healing arts.  The maiden voyage took us to Kahiki (Tahiti) and it was there I found that there were other traditional healers and that there was a real need to perpetuate the art.  At the time, in Hawai’i there were only a few true practitioners and they were getting old and passing on.  I made the commitment then to become a cultural practitioner and take on the kuleana (responsibility) to perpetuate the art of lomilomi.  Over the years my work has evolved to incorporate various other disciplines into the practice especially the martial art of Lua, a complementary form of neuromuscular, bone and joint work.  I continue to be a student of lomilomi and look forward to sharing what I have learned through my teachers and mentors.

I have been an LMT.  Since 1996
